About me

I began working in the nonprofit world in 1998. I worked for a program that educated women about HIV, STDs, and how to take control of their sexual health, and over time my focus became educating young women. I loved it so much and within a few years, I was asked to speak at conferences all over the country speaking to youth about how to empower themselves to make healthy decisions for their lives. I worked for a few different agencies over the years, but my message was always one of empowerment.

In 2010 I was given the opportunity to run my own youth focused HIV/STD prevention program. With empowerment as a major part of our mission, we trained over 100 youth to be peer educators. We started a youth council that made major decisions about the direction of the program. What I loved the most, is what I’ve loved from the beginning of my career, coaching youth in one on one sessions. Helping them on the road to becoming their best selves.

In 2013 I was hired at Indiana Youth Group (IYG) to stat a program focusing on the parents of LGBTQ+ youth. IYG has done an amazing job at creating a safe, and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ youth for many years. We knew that it was more likely that our kids would make healthier decisions if they lived in accepting households, so we got to work talking to, educating, and supporting parents to assist them in creating accepting households.

While working at IYG, I was trained as a Systematic Training for Effective Parenting(STEP) educator and began talking to parents. I facilitated groups and coached parents one on one. During this time I also became a mother myself. Becoming a mother enriched the interactions I had with the parents I worked with so much. This work has been so challenging and so rewarding all at once. Three years ago I decided to officially become a certified life coach. I wanted to deepen my knowledge in efforts to create better connections with the people I serve.
